About

The fishing cottage at Screebe is probably one of the most photographed structures in Connemara now.  It became so popular that I had stopped coming here thinking there really wasn’t anything I could add.  But in late Autumn of 2022 I stopped here for a while and took in the natural beauty and peace of the place for almost an hour and waited a long time before deciding to take the camera out of the bag.

I decided on a very simple composition highlighting the textures and a very subtle green, white and gold element in there for a patriotic touch !

I am almost done with my now four year project photographing the little fishing huts around south Connemara which all originally formed part of the Ballynahinch Castle estate, owned by the Berridge family until early last century.   The little huts, or ‘Bothainín’ as they would be called in Irish were primarily used for the gamekeepers to ward off poachers helping themselves to the sea trout and salmon.

Unframed prints

One of the best ways to upgrade your walls with one of our pieces to suit your old style is to choose an unframed print and select the frame style yourself. We price our unframed prints reasonably to give you a generous allowance towards the cost of framing your print to the same standard you will find in the gallery.
